MIYAKAWA MOCHI ICE CREAM

In downtown LA there is a collection of Japanese restaurants and shops in the Japanese Village Plaza at the gateway to Little Tokyo. Since I have mad love for mochi ice cream, it is a no brainer that my favorite shop in the Plaza would be Miyakawa Mochi Ice Cream.

Miyakawa created mochi ice cream in 1994, which is ice cream wrapped in Japanese rice dough. Both their ice cream and mochi are made fresh in house. There are many different flavors including mint chocolate chip, cookies and cream, green tea, chocolate hazelnut and much more. I had the traditional green tea and let me just say it was the freshest mochi ice cream I have ever tasted. It has amazing flavor and the mochi was extremely soft.

Each mochi ice cream is only $1, which is a steal considering other places sell it for a lot more. Miyakawa Mochi Ice Cream has expanded and is now in restaurants and stores like Costco, Longs, Walmart etc. I have bought Miyakawa's prepackaged mochi ice cream before but eating it the same day it was made cannot be beat. Miyakawa also makes yummy mochi and ice cream as well. If you are ever in LA and want the fresh mochi ice cream, take a swing by Miyakawa. It will be worth your while.
