At last, a one stop spot for all of Hawaii's classics. Hawaii's Favorite Kitchens opened up a week or so ago and has been a hit from day one. This is to no surprise. Hawaii's Favorite Kitchens is located right next to Rainbow Drive-Inn. Basically the concept is combining a bunch of Hawaii's Favorite Kitchens (get it?) to one location. These favorites include Rainbow Drive-Inn, KC Waffle Hot Dog, Hoku, Poke Stop and Bubbies.
As a child, my dad would always take my sister and I to KC Drive-Inn after going to the beach. This was a mandatory pit stop on our way home. I would always get a waffle hot dog and an Ono Ono shake. But unfortunately, KC Drive-Inn closed so I was unable to get my fix. So you can imagine my excitement when Hawaii's Favorite Kitchen opened up with the original KC waffle hot dog.
A waffle hot dog is a hot dog covered in waffle batter. It is crispy on the outside but soft and juicy on the inside. A complement to the waffle hot dog is an Ono Ono shake, which is a peanut butter shake. There are other options that you mix with the classic Ono Ono shake like chocolate, vanilla, coffee and strawberry. I normally get chocolate Ono Ono shake. If you've never tried this delicious combo of a waffle hot dog and an Ono Ono shake, you are missing out. Everyone who is local to Hawaii or visiting, should taste this classic combo.
I can't wait to try all the other goodies that Hawaii's Favorite Kitchen has to offer. I've got my eye on a poke bowl the next time I come. And maybe an Ono Ono shake too.
